All,

Greetings.

The Cognitive Science Department at Rensselaer is interested in hiring a mid-career (i.e., current Assoc Prof) to senior-career (i.e., current Full Prof) person who might be interested in Heading the Department.

Although the announcement went out via email lists in the fall, there were delays in getting it out to more standard outlets. (I am not on the search committee so I do not know the details.)

We welcome all candidates. We are especially welcoming of women and minorities. Furthermore we have, recently, been specifically instructed to cast the net wider to include people currently at the Assoc. Prof. level with strong records of research and funding, and who show strong leadership potential.

Also note that although I have phrased the background in terms of academic ranks (i.e., current Assoc or Full Prof), we are looking for distinguished scholars and researchers who are mid- or senior-career regardless of whether or not you are currently employed at a university.

I should also note that no one who has applied has been rejected. Our senior administration is distressed by the size and diversity of the current pool, not by its quality.
