The OFFIS Research Division Transportation (www.offis.de) has two open
positions for research assistants on a full-time basis available in
October 2013. The position is for 3 years with an optional extension up to
5 years.
Position1 : Studying and Modelling Interaction between Aircraft Pilots and
Cockpit Assistance Systems
You will work in a European Project in the Transportation domain with
leading scientists in the field of Human-Machine Interaction and with
experts from the Aeronautics Industry. The objective of the project is to
research a new methodology for human-centred design of adaptive pilot
assistance systems based on models of distributed situation awareness
including human perception. You will perform a detailed investigation of
involved cognitive processes in flight simulators of Lufthansa Flight
Training, Berlin, Germany, in order to derive conceptual enhancements of
an existing model architecture. You will implement the concept into
executable program code in order to perform model-based simulations of
various flight scenarios. The resulting model will be applied for
assessment of human machine interaction (incl. usability aspects)
involving a new adaptive assistance system provided by Honeywell, Brno,
Czech Republic.
Position 2: Studying and Modelling Interaction between Car Drivers and
Driver Assistance Systems
You will work in a European Project in the Transportation domain with
leading scientists in the field of Human-Machine Interaction and with
experts from the Automotive Industry. The objective of the project is to
research a new methodology for human-centred design of adaptive driver
assistance systems based on models of drivers’ perception, interpretation
and prediction of traffic situations during interaction with driver
assistance systems. You will perform a detailed investigation of involved
cognitive processes in a car simulator at OFFIS in order to derive
conceptual enhancements of an existing model architecture. You will
implement the concept into executable program code in order to perform
model-based simulations of various traffic scenarios. The resulting model
will be applied for assessment of human machine interaction involving a
new adaptive assistance system provided by Centro Richerche di Fiat,
Turin, Italy.
Our requirements (for both positions):
You should be highly motivated and possess the competence to work in a
team. You should enjoy facing interdisciplinary challenges. As an
application-oriented researcher you are interested in communicating and
cooperating with industrial partners. We expect an outstanding M.Sc. or
Diploma in Computer Science, Cognitive Psychology or a related discipline.
An interest in, knowledge on and preferably experience with, either
Cognitive Science, Human Factors, Artificial Intelligence, Software
Development and/or Assistance Systems are essential.
What we offer:
OFFIS is located in Oldenburg (north western Germany) - a dynamic
university city with a distinct sense of personality and an unique quality
of life offering many cultural and free time possibilities. Oldenburg is
located near Bremen and Hamburg with the North Sea only few kilometres
away. OFFIS is an institute for information technology with an
international focus. For our employees, we offer a professionally and
socially attractive working environment. As an academic institute, we have
in cooperation with the University excellent opportunities for scientific
careers and, if formal preconditions are fulfilled, for working towards a
doctoral thesis. You will work in the group Human-Centred Design of the
OFFIS Transportation Department. This group is very active in the research
community and has strong relationships to leading industrial organisations
like EADS, Lufthansa, Honeywell, Bosch, Fiat, Volkswagen, European Space
Agency and others.
The salary will be dependent on the qualifications and performance.
