[ACT-R-users] Position using ACT-R to model Natural Language Processing

L-3 Communications at the Air Force Research Laboratory in Mesa, AZ is currently looking for a computational linguist with an interest in cognitive plausibility to help build a Natural Language Processing (NLP) system. This system is to be implemented in the ACT-R cognitive architecture. The end goal is to build computational replicates of human-like behavior for various types of training applications. Preferred candidates will have interdisciplinary experience in Linguistics, Psychology, Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science. Ideally, this person will have experience designing and implementing all or some of the subsystems of a NLP system. This position is in the Performance and Learning Models (PALM) research team at the AFRL. It is an applied research position working directly with the government customer as well as other cognitive/computer scientists and cognitive/functional linguists.
Required Education & Skills:
PhD in Cognitive Science (CS), Computational Linguistics, AI, Linguistics, Psychology, Cognitive Engineering, Engineering or Math; or MS degree with 2-3 yrs related work experience.
Strong programming skills in Lisp, Prolog, C/C++, and/or Java; and a demonstrated ability to learn new software languages quickly to support project goals. The selected candidate will help develop NLP subsystems in ACT-R (Lisp) and integrate them with other system components written in varied programming languages.
Ability to obtain US Secret security clearance is mandatory.
Desired Experience & Knowledge:
Experience developing NLP systems; experience with Language Comprehension/Generation and/or Dialog Modeling; knowledge of Cognitive Architectures e.g. ACT-R, SOAR; knowledge of Cognitive/Functional Linguistics; interest in developing cognitively plausible, yet functional NLP systems.
