Please pass these onto anyone who might be interested. We would also appreciate suggestions for where else to publish or post the IST ad. Rich is on the search committee, and is happy to answer questions, but feel free to contact me as well. thanks, Lael Hello, everyone -- What appears below is the ad for faculty positions in the new PSU School of Information Science and Technology. I'm on the faculty recruiting committee for this school, and I think there is an opportunity here to get some faculty of interest to us and to establish links between Psychology and the IST school. The kind of people who might fit and be of interest to us might include cognitive science people, people with interests in organizations and work in information-technology environments, people concerned with the impact of information science and technology on individuals or society, and others. The plan is to hire 5 faculty, at a mix of ranks, for next fall. Please send this ad along to colleagues who might be interested (or have students who might be interested), or pass along to me your suggestions for distributing the ad (to people, departments, professional organizations, etc.). If you have questions, I'll be happy to try to answer them. Thanks for your help, Rich Rich Carlson, Professor of Psychology cvy at psu.edu Penn State Psychology Department (814) 863-1736 613 Moore Building Fax (814) 863-7002 University Park, PA 16802-3106 The School of Information Science and Technology (IST) at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for full-time tenure-track positions, with rank to be determined on the basis of qualifications and experience. Senior rank will be considered for applicants with recognized national and international stature. Faculty members will have an opportunity to participate actively and contribute significantly in the formative stages of this exciting new School and its program. Anticipated starting date is August 1999. The School is a new academic unit that has the status of a college within the University. The School will offer a baccalaureate program for the first time in Fall 1999 and will introduce a graduate program in Fall 2000. IST is an interdisciplinary program intended to offer students an integrated curriculum covering a wide range of knowledge and skills in information science and technology. Students will learn the general principles that govern the creation, organization, application, and structure of information, as well as the implications of information science and technology in law, ethics, and social policy. Subjects will include, but not be limited to, such diverse topics as computer applications in non-technical and technical areas, basic hardware and software concepts, data management and retrieval, telecommunications and information policy, and multi-media applications. A non inclusive list of application domains include engineering, the social sciences, environmental sciences, geography, health, and business. Close interaction and collaboration with traditional and existing programs will be encouraged, and strong partnerships with industry and government are already developed and expected to increase significantly. Candidates should hold a doctorate degree. The discipline of a candidate's education is not as important as having strong interest and experience in computer applications within that discipline. Qualifications include a strong interest in and commitment to teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Candidates should also have research interests in areas consistent with the information orientation of the School and have the potential to obtain and direct funded research projects. Screening of candidates will begin on January 2, 1999. Applications will be accepted until the positions are filled. A full curriculum vitae, a one page statement of professional interests, and the names, addresses, and phone/e-mail addresses of three references should be submitted to: Chair, Faculty Search Committee School of Information Science and Technology 303 Old Main Penn State University University Park, PA 16802 Penn State is an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer. Your web site says that you need version 3.0.2, > but the company no longer supports that version and it might be > difficult for me to obtain. > Since I am the current maintainer of the environment for Windows I will let everyone know where things stand currently. Plain ACT-R will run in any version of ACL, but the environment requires ACL 3.0.2, it will not run under ACL 5. A new version of the environment that will run in ACL 5 should be ready by the end of the year. At that time, we should also have a stand-alone version that runs under Windows without requiring ACL (of course the stand-alone version will not have all of the functionality of ACL). When the new version becomes available I will announce it to the mailing list. If you have any changes you would like to see made for the new version, or bugs to report in the old version, please send them to me (db30 at andrew.cmu.edu).
