of Hildesheim, Germany, invites applications for a<br>

PhD Position in Machine Learning (m/f/d)<br>
TV-L E13, 100%, initially three years, Ref. 2026/121<br>
<br>
The position is full-time, can be filled immediately, and is paid<br>
according to TV-L E13 (roughly 57,000 EUR gross per year).<br>
<br>
ISMLL is an international research group on machine learning,
especially<br>
predictive modelling and probabilistic methods for complex data
and complex<br>
decisions, with a track record at NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, ACM
KDD and<br>
ECML/PKDD. A core line of our work concerns time series
forecasting for irregular and <br>
probabilistic data, large language models and their efficiency,
graph neural networks,<br>
recommender systems, geometric and hyperbolic deep learning,
neural<br>
combinatorial optimization, and we take part in basic and applied
research<br>
projects in domains such as mobility, e-commerce and
technology-enhanced<br>
learning. The Institute of Computer Science has a strong focus on
artificial<br>
intelligence, with three chairs in the field.<br>

As a PhD student in our group you conduct research guided by a
postdoc and<br>
two professors, cooperate with academic and industrial partners on<br>
real-world ML problems, and are encouraged to assist in teaching
in our<br>
International Master's Program in Data Analytics. The working
language of<br>
the group is English. Hildesheim is a town with UNESCO World
Heritage<br>
sites in the center of Germany, 30 km from Hanover and 1.5 hours
by<br>
high-speed train from Berlin.<br>

We are looking for a gifted student who loves models, algorithms
and data,<br>
can hardly stop discussing them with others, likes to express
their ideas<br>
in formulas and programs, and now wants to get to the bottom of a
complex<br>
ML problem over the next three years. You should hold a recent
Master's<br>
degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science
or a<br>
closely related area, and bring strong analytic and programming
skills,<br>
the ability to work independently, and strong interpersonal as
well as<br>
English language skills. A Master's thesis on an ML topic will be
an<br>
asset.<br>
