Call for 2 Computer Science positions at Assistant professor level
at
the Department of Computer Science of the University of Milan
(Italy) for the
NextGenerationEU project “National Center for Gene Therapy and
Drugs based on RNA Technology” funded by the Italy’s recovery and
resilience plan (PNRR)</p>
<p style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0in">The project
includes
more than 40 Universities, Research Centers and Companies with the
objective of developing innovative RNA drugs for the therapy of
cancer, genetic and neuro-degenerative and infective diseases,
with
an overall budget of about 400M Euros.
</p>
<p style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0in">In this context the
Spoke n. 7 – Biocomputing of the consortium funds 2 Assistant
Professor positions (italian RTDA) for the project “Graph
Representation Learning methods for the analysis of biomedical
Knowledge Graphs”, under the supervision of prof. Giorgio
Valentini
(Computer Science Dept. of the University of Milan).<br>
The main goal of the
project is to design and develop Graph Representation Learning
methods for the analysis of heterogeneous graphs and for the
construction of biomedical Knowledge Graphs. The developed methods
will be applied to the analysis of Knowledge Graphs for drug
repurposing, drug-target prediction and other node label and edge
prediction biomedical problems, with a particular focus on RNA
drugs
for the therapy of cancer and genetic diseases.</p>
<p style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0in">Scientific director
of the project: prof. Giorgio Valentini </p>
<p style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0in">Required commitment
: full time</p>
<p style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0in">Possible candidates
are PhDs having a background in Machine Learning and/or DataBase
and/or Bioinformatics with a propensity for applications in the
bio-medical field.</p>
<p style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0in">Specific functions
that the researcher is called to perform:
</p>
<p style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0in">• Scientific
functions: The first RTDA position will concern the development of
Graph Representation Learning methods based on random walk and
Graph
Neural Network specifically designed to solve relevant Network
Medicine problems. The second RTDA position will concern both the
development of methods for the construction of biomedical
Knowledge
Graphs, and the application of Graph Representation Learning and
graph-based methods for their analysis. A significant part of the
research activities will involve the efficient software
implementation of algorithms for the construction and analysis of
Knowledge Graphs capable of scaling with large heterogeneous
graphs.
</p>
<p style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0in">• Teaching
functions: connected to the coverage needs of laboratories /
fundamental courses of the Degrees Bachelor's and Master's of the
Computer Science Department (in English language) and / or basic
service courses provided by the Department for other degree
courses
related to the topics of interest of the PNRR project.</p>
<p style="line-height: 100%; margin-bottom: 0in">The research
activities will take place at the Computer Science Department of
the
University of Milan, in collaboration with other national and
international research centers involved in the research project
itself.
