CORTICAL MODELLING<br>

</span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt">This module provides a theoretical and practical introduction to computational neuroscience. As a core component of the MSc in Computational Cognitive Neuroscience, it covers the “lower-level” aspects of brain modelling,
focussing on single neurons and simple cortical circuits, including neurobiology of the neuron (basic synaptic mechanisms, channel conductance, membrane potential), generation and propagation of action potential, leaky integrate-and-fire neurons, feed-forward
networks, and STDP. The course is delivered by means of ten theory lectures along with ten practical sessions (labs / workshops), each 2 hours long. The practical sessions typically involve implementing models of single neurons and small networks of neurons
using MATLAB.<b><o:p></o:p></b></span></p>
