in a NIH funded study. We are a systems neuroscience laboratory (Lab Website: www.gulatilab.org ) that is part of Cedars-Sinai’s Center for Neural Science and Medicine. The lab is using systems neuroscience and neural engineering methods to understand the
processes of motor skill consolidation in the brain, and also developing novel neurotechnology based on closed-loop electric stimulation, and brain-machine interfaces. Our recent work showed sleep-reactivation of learning-related activity while rats learned
neuroprosthetic motor skill (Gulati et al, <i>Nature Neuroscience</i> 2014; 2017). Another line of research showed emergence of low-frequency oscillatory (LFO) activity in primary motor cortex (M1) with motor skill consolidation, that also tracked recovery
after M1 stroke (Ramanathan*, Guo*, Gulati* et al, <i>Nature Medicine</i> 2018, *equally-contributing authors). This work also showed that boosting the weakened LFO activity after stroke injury using closed-loop electrical stimulation in the rodent model promoted
motor performance. This completed work looked at M1, but next aim is to study emergence of learning related activity across distributed motor networks (M1, striatum, cerebellum, motor thalamus) - both during awake and sleep states. Immediate goals are to record
jointly from M1 and cerebellum. We plan to do this in intact as well as stroke-injured rodents to identify targets for electrical stimulation. The postdoctoral fellow will use state-of-the-art systems neuroscience approaches to address these questions. Candidate
will be expected to perform multi-site recordings in intact rodents, as well as stroke-injured rodent models. They will also be responsible for data analyses, and preparing manuscripts. Candidates will have opportunities to mentor junior trainees (interns/
graduate students). Salary will follow NIH guidelines and is negotiable.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
