The Biorobotics laboratory (Biorob, http://biorob.epfl.ch/) at EPFL
(Lausanne, Switzerland) has one open postdoc position in numerical
simulations of human locomotion. The goal of the project is to
develop neuromechanical models of human locomotion, together with
Stéphane Armand (gait analysis, University of Geneva) and
Alexandros Kalousis (machine learning, University of applied
sciences, Western Switzerland), in the framework of a
collaborative Sinergia project funded by the Swiss National
Science Foundation. The neuromechanical models will include
numerical models of spinal cord circuits coupled to biomechanical
simulations of the body. The purpose of the project is (1) to
model pathological gaits resulting from motor impairments such as
cerebral palsy, and (2) to compare and combine neuromechanical
simulation and machine learning approaches for gait analysis. See

for some first results. The position is fully funded for 2 years.

EPFL is one of the leading Institutes of Technology in Europe and
offers extremely competitive salaries and research infrastructure.

Requirements:

Candidates should have a Ph.D. and a strong publication record in
biomechanics and numerical modeling of locomotion.

An ideal candidate would have prior experience in:

Biomechanical models of human locomotion

Numerical models of human locomotion

Numerical models of neuromechanical systems

Programming in Python and C

Good communication and management skills are a plus. Fluency
in oral and written English is required.

How to apply for the position:

Postdoctoral applications should consist of a motivation letter
(explaining why you are interested in the project, and why you
feel qualified for it), a full CV, two or three relevant
publications, and the email addresses of two referees. PDF files
are preferred. The files should be sent to <a

Deadline and starting date:

The ideal starting date is this summer 2019 (but
flexible). Applications are requested for May 15 2019, and
will then be processed as they arrive until the position is
closed.
