The study of temporal networks is an emerging field that embraces several disciplines.
Indeed, a vast number of systems, from brain networks to socio-communication patterns or social networks, until recently studied as static objects, can —and should— be represented as temporal networks.
In this project, the student will develop temporal network descriptions of dynamic functional connectivity extracted from brain imaging time-series (including virtual imaging sessions, based on The Virtual Brain software).
Applications will include the study of how dynamic functional connectivity changes along the learning of a cognitive task or through aging, both healthy and pathological. The opportunity will be offered to work in strict contact
with the clinical research department of Prof. Olivier Blin where data are gathered and cognitive challenge models designed and implemented.

IMPORTANT: the applicant must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in France for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to the reference date (October 1st, 2017).

The program will be funded under the the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND action within the H2020 Research and Innovation programme of the European Union and by the Regional Council of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur, with a contribution from A*MIDEX Foundation.

Within this programme, the PhD fellows will sign a three-year work contract.

Some of the advantages
• PhD fellowship remunerated above that of a standard French PhD contract with a monthly net salary of approximately 1625€/month.
• Financial support for international research training and conferences participations.
• International mobility of PhD fellows is financed by the A*MIDEX Foundation.
• A 500€ travel allowance per year is also provided for the fellows to travel between Marseille and their place of origin.
• Tailored training and personalised mentoring, financial support for international research training and conferences participations.

Doctoral fellows will also benefit from:
• 1 welcoming day.
• Support in the administrative procedures.
• Reserved rooms in university housing.
• Several activities to promote integration in the local student life and cultural activities.
• French language courses covered by the fellowship.

Potentially interested candidates should contact Alain Barrat (alain.barrat@cpt.univ-mrs.fr) and Demian Battaglia (demian.battaglia@univ-amu.fr), sending a CV and the name of two reference persons.
A formal application should then be filed on the website:

http://doc2amu.univ-amu.fr/en/temporal-networks-from-network-theory-to-brain-science

following the instructions therein.

DEADLINE FOR APPLICATION: April 10th, 2017 at midnight (CET time)
PRELIMINARY CANDIDATE SELECTION: May 2nd, 2017
ORAL INTERVIEWS: June 1st-2nd, 2017
STARTING DATE: October 1st, 2017
