<p class="MsoNormal"><span>The Centre for Neurotechnology at
Imperial College London, in the lab of Claudia Clopath and Mauricio Barahona, is
looking for a talented PhD student interested in working in the field of
computational/mathematical neuroscience. The perfect candidate has a strong
mathematical, physical or engineering background (or equivalent), and a keen
interest in biological and neural systems. Demonstrated programming skills are
a plus. Candidates should be EU nationals.<br>

-----------------Research topic: -----------------<br>
The complex processing and behavioural capabilities of the brain are directly
linked to the fact that neurons exhibit rich collective network dynamics. This
dynamics emerges from the highly enmeshed and recurrent, yet structured,
connectivity between neurons. Yet, it is poorly understood how the topology and
connectivity of the network relate to the emerging dynamics. In this project,
we will develop novel theoretical and computational approaches for neuroscience
involving a tight interaction between state-of-the-art mathematical tools
(graph theory, dynamical systems, stochastic processes, dimensionality
reduction) in close connection with relevant data, models, and computer
simulations of plastic neural networks.</span></p>

The candidate will be co-supervised in the lab of Claudia Clopath in the

and in the lab of <span> </span>Mauricio Barahona in the
Mathematics Department (<a href="https://www.imperial.ac.uk/people/m.barahona" target="_blank">https://www.imperial.ac.uk/<wbr>people/m.barahona</a>). Imperial
College London is the 3rd ranked university in Europe, in the top 10 worldwide,
