<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt;font-family:"Calibri",sans-serif">The University of California, Merced has funded Ph.D. positions available as part of a new NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) program in Intelligent Adaptive Systems (Award 1633722).
The program is a collaboration between six of our standing Ph.D. programs: Applied Mathematics, Cognitive Science, Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Quantitative and Systems Biology. The aim is to train the next generation
of scientists and engineers who will make breakthroughs in interdisciplinary theories and applications of intelligent adaptive systems.

training and research projects as part of the NRT. Your degree will also include a designated emphasis in intelligent adaptive systems (pending approval). In the Statement of Research Interests that is part of your standard Ph.D. program application, include
a section entitled “NRT program in Intelligent Adaptive Systems”. In this section, briefly describe how your research interests and educational background fit with the NRT. If you are accepted into the Ph.D. program you applied to, you will also be considered
