interdisciplinary Institute for Intelligent Systems. The students will work

and will have the opportunity to collaborate with researchers from different
academic units at the University of Memphis as well as collaborators from other

Research will involve investigating computational approaches to answering
fundamental questions in sensory perception, action and cognition, such as, how
do we learn the different objects/behaviors in our environment, how do we
filter different kinds of noise without any prior model of the noise, how do we act proactively to garner
efficiency, and so on. Our current focus is on investigating a deep predictive
coding model to answer these fundamental questions. This research exists at the
confluence of artificial intelligence, machine learning, cognitive science, and
computational neuroscience, with applications to smart healthcare and smart
