About 100 research institutes from different disciplines all over Europe cooperate intensively to achieve a multi-level, integrated understanding of brain structure. The project will run for about 10 years and during this time six ICT platforms will be developed.<br class=""><br class="">The Neurorobotics Platform (NRP) is a web application that runs neurorobotics experiments. It grants neuroscientists easy access to state-of-the-art simulators: spiking neural networks (NEST), robotics (Gazebo) and physics (ODE, bullet). These simulators are connected together and coordinated within a closed loop. They run on high performance computing resources and on neuromorphic hardware. The NRP also provides designers for the creation of brain-body interfaces, virtual worlds and robot models. To strengthen our Neurorobotics distributed (EPFL, TUM, fortiss) team, we are looking at fortiss GmbH for an<br class=""><br class="">EXPERIENCED SIMULATION SOFTWARE ENGINEER – NEUROROBOTICS<div class=""><br class="">Profile:<br class=""><br class=""><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• A Master’s degree in software engineering or similar (Bachelors if proven relevant professional experience) <br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Minimum of 3 years of experience and successful development track record for simulation-based software projects<br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div>Major duties and responsibilities:<br class=""><br class=""><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Gazebo robotics simulator development, soft-body physics engine integration and maintenance (C++) <br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Frontend development of rich, highly interactive 3D web interfaces (HTML5, CSS, Javascript)<br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Backend development at the brain simulator level (Python, C++ / MPI)<br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Participation in deployment on highly scalable HPC cluster hardware architectures <br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• All aspects of the modern software development lifecycle: unit testing, continuous integration, version control, debugging, documentation<br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Support to the users for setting up new neurorobotics experiments<br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div>Essential skills and experience required:<br class=""><br class=""><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Experience in robotics on the software layer <br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Good familiarity with 3D simulators / libraries and either ROS, Gazebo or other robotic simulator <br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Strong experience in C++<br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Strong motivation to learn the other languages / technologies that we use, in particular spiking neural networks<br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Very good familiarity with team work and modern software development life-cycle<br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Flexible, good team player and fluent in written and spoken English, German is a plus<br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div>Preferred:<br class=""><br class=""><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Agile Methodologies; SaaS environment experience<br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Python, HTML, Javascript languages; WebGL, ThreeJS, AngularJS frameworks<br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• Experience with neural networks, NEST simulator<br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div>What we offer:<br class=""><br class=""><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• A prestigious project of global prominence in simulation-based neuroscience<br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• A dynamic, interdisciplinary, and motivated team<br class=""></div><div class=""><span class="Apple-tab-span" style="white-space: pre;"> </span>• A modern working environment based at fortiss in Munich city inbounds<br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div>Start date: September 1st<br class=""><br class="">Contract: 1,5 year, renewable, salary according to experience and public TV-L West charts (E13 for Masters, E11 Bachelors)<br class=""><br class="">Applicants should submit a cover letter and a detailed CV in PDF format only, with file name “<surname>_HBP_cover” and “<surname>_HBP_CV”.<br class="">Contact: Please send your application electronically to career(at)<a href="http://fortiss.org" class="">fortiss.org</a><br class="">Application code: FB2-HBP-MA-02-2016<div class="">Please note that applications without this code cannot be considered.<br class="">Contact person: Axel von Arnim<br class=""><br class="">We are looking forward to receiving your application!</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">Priv.-Doz.
