The recent developments in the field of neural-symbolic integration bring an opportunity to integrate well-founded symbolic artificial intelligence with robust neural computing machinery to help tackle some of these challenges.<br class=""><br class="">The Workshop on Neural-Symbolic Learning and Reasoning is intended to create an atmosphere of exchange of ideas, providing a forum for the presentation and discussion of the key topics related to neural-symbolic integration. Topics of interest include:<br class=""><br class="">· The representation of symbolic knowledge by connectionist systems;<br class="">· Neural Learning theory.<br class="">· Integration of logic and probabilities, e.g., in neural networks, but also more generally;<br class="">· Structured learning and relational learning in neural networks;<br class="">· Logical reasoning carried out by neural networks;<br class="">· Integrated neural-symbolic learning approaches;<br class="">· Extraction of symbolic knowledge from trained neural networks;<br class="">· Integrated neural-symbolic reasoning;<br class="">· Neural-symbolic cognitive models;<br class="">· Biologically-inspired neural-symbolic integration;<br class="">· Applications in robotics, simulation, fraud prevention, natural language processing, semantic web, software engineering, fault diagnosis, bioinformatics, visual intelligence, etc.<br class=""><br class=""><br class="">== Submission ==<br class=""><br class="">Researchers and practitioners are invited to submit original papers that have not been submitted for review or published elsewhere.<br class="">Submitted papers must be written in English, must be formatted according to the Springer LNCS style, and should not exceed 10 pages (excluding references/bibliography) in the case of research and experience papers, and 6 pages (excluding references/bibliography) in the case of position papers or technical notes.<br class=""><br class="">All submitted papers will be judged based on their quality, relevance, originality, significance, and soundness.<br class="">Papers must be submitted through EasyChair (please see <a href="http://www.neural-symbolic.org/NeSy16/" class="">http://www.neural-symbolic.org/NeSy16/</a> for details).<br class=""><br class="">Additionally, for the first time presentations based on extended abstracts will be considered. These shall allow to report on latest results which had not been available at the time of paper submission. Therefore, the abstract deadline is significantly closer to the workshop date. Extended abstracts may not exceed 2 pages (including references/bibliography) and should aim to give a good impression of the type of work conducted, the achieved results and their importance for the field.<br class=""><br class="">== Presentation ==<br class=""><br class="">Selected papers will be presented during the workshop. The workshop will include extra time for audience discussion of the presentation allowing the group to have a better understanding of the issues, challenges, and ideas being presented.<br class=""><br class="">== Publication ==<br class=""><br class="">Accepted papers will be published in official workshop proceedings within the <a href="http://ceur-ws.org" class="">CEUR-WS.org</a> series. Authors of the best papers will be invited to submit a revised and extended version of their papers to the newly-established corresponding track of the Journal of Artificial Intelligence Research (JAIR).<br class="">Accepted abstracts will also be included in the official workshop proceedings.
