Connectionists: Open PhD position in scalable, efficient machine learning

We are looking for excellent and highly motivated PhD students to join 
the /Sustainable Machine Learning/ group in the Department of Computer 
Science, Ruhr University Bochum.

As a PhD student, you will work on developing state-of-the-art machine 
learning models that can scale while being energy-efficient. These 
models will be based on core design principles of sparsity and 
asynchrony and take inspiration from biology/neuroscience. The work will 
be done in collaboration with academic and industry groups that develop 
biology-inspired low-energy neuromorphic hardware.

The appointment will be for three years, starting as soon as possible. 
Salary is 75% of German salary scale TV-L E13.

*Candidates for this post should possess the following:*

- A very good Masters's degree in mathematics, computer science, 
engineering, or a related field.
- Excellent programming skills (Python preferably).
- Good knowledge of applied mathematics and computer science.
- Ability to learn quickly and work independently, as well as in a team.

*Preferred qualifications include:*

- Interest in interdisciplinary research questions and cooperation.
- Hands-on/research experience with deep learning.
- Experience with machine learning frameworks such as 
PyTorch/Tensorflow/JAX.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Experience or willingness to collaborate with a wide variety of 
interdisciplinary partners.
