a post-doc position is available at Telecom Bretagne, Brest, France to work
with Mai Nguyen funded by the European FP-7 project ECHORD++ for the
experiment KERAAL.


PROJECT:
The experiment KERAAL is a 18-month project funded by the European Union.

KERAAL aims to provide robot mediated physical exercises for people
suffering from low back pain. Since physiotherapists are not able to spend
enough time with patients, the robot coach will demonstrate the exercise,
monitor the patients exercise, correct the exercises and suggest right
methods using expert Human Robot Interaction and Intelligent Tutoring
System, thereby providing physical presence which is not acquired via
Virtual Reality systems. The project is lead by a consortium including the
hospital CHU Brest, the robotics startup Generation Robots, and the
university (Grande Ecole) Telecom Bretagne.

Using the kinect v2 and the open source poppy human robot (
https://www.poppy-project.org/en/robots/poppy-humanoid), Telecom Bretagne
is in charge of developing the intelligent tutoring system that enables the
system to evaluate the performance of the patients.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The position starts in October 2016 and finishes in February 2018.

The postdoc will be in charge of:
- developing an algorithm for an intelligent tutoring system, based on
probabilistic models, to assess the patient’s movement and give feedback to
help him improve on rehabilitation exercises.
- cooperate with the partners to integrate their HRI.
- carry out clinical evaluations in partnership with physiotherapists from
the rehabilitation centre.
- analyse the clinical results.
- contribute to the updating and support of the robotic platforms.

The candidate :
- must hold a Ph.D. related to machine learning and/or robotics, and in
particular imitation learning.
- are expected to be experienced in programming in python and using linux
and windows.
- are fluent in spoken and written English.
- familiarity with the Kinect v2 and Poppy platforms are a plus.
