Forschungszentrum Jülich pursues cutting-edge interdisciplinary research on the pressing issues of our time. It helps to solve the grand challenges facing society in the fields of energy and environment as well as information and the brain. With more than 5,700 employees, Jülich – a member of the Helmholtz Association – is one of the large interdisciplinary research centres in Europe.

The Bernstein Network Coordination Site (www.nncn.de<http://www.nncn.de>) is a German research network in the interdisciplinary field of Computational Neuroscience. The network was initiated in 2004 by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF) and connects over 200 research groups at more than 20 locations throughout Germany. The Bernstein Coordination Site (BCOS) supports the network in all joint activities, represents the network nationally and internationally, is responsible for the joint press and public-relations work, and coordinates all activities of the Smart Start Joint Training Program in Computational Neuroscience. Besides the position of its head announced here, BCOS consists of a scientific officer, a press and public relations officer and a project assistant. BCOS is part of the Institute of Neuroscience and Medicine, Computational and Systems Neuroscience (INM-6) of the Jülich Research Centre, one of the largest research centers in Europe.

We are looking to recruit a Head of the Bernstein Network Coordination Site (BCOS)

Your Job:

  *    fostering the communication and scientific cooperation between the Network partners and international contacts
  *   responsibility for the budget planning
  *   support in the strategic planning and future perspective for the Bernstein Network and lobbying
  *   organizational support for the yearly Bernstein Conference, planning and organization of further events and workshop
  *   further development of the communication with the public and politics
  *   intensifying industry contacts
  *   contact to funding agencies
  *   support of young researchers and training
  *   reporting and summaries

Your Profile:

  *   applicants should have a PhD or equivalent (preferentially in the neurosciences)
  *   own research experience
  *   a good overview over the fields of Computational Neuroscience and Neurotechnology
  *   experience in third-party funded projects and science management
  *   excellent command of the German and English languages
  *   experience in the public communication of science
  *   an integrative personality with pronounced social skills and a high degree of self-initiative
  *   the position entails travelling within Germany as well as occasional international travelling

Our Offer:

  *   limited for 2 years with possible longer-term prospects
  *   salary and social benefits in conformity with the provisions of the Collective Agreement for the Civil Service (TVöD). Depending on the applicant‘s qualifications and the precise nature of the tasks, salary grade 15 TVöD-Bund.

Place of employment is Freiburg.
