                                             CALL for
Papers

                              WCCI'06- IJCNN'06 Special Session on
Natural Computation for Temporal Data Processing

Ke Chen, Kar-Ann Toh and Peter Tino

Aims and scope
--------------

Temporal/sequential data are ubiquitous in the real world. Proper
treatment of data with temporal dependencies
is essential in many application areas ranging from multimedia data
processing to bioinformatics.The field has
attracted a substantial amount of interest from a wide range of
disciplines. This special session attempts
to explore/exploit the natural computation approaches, e.g. neural
computation, statistical learning,
evolutionary computation, fuzzy systems and various hybrid methods, for
coping with diverse forms of time
dependency and data types as well as their applications in real world
problems, e.g. multimedia data processing,
biometrics, bioinformatics and financial data processing.

The purpose of this session is to bring together researchers and
practitioners working in the area from
various disciplines of natural computation. The session serves as a
forum enabling experience exchange
between academia and industry, as well as between researchers working
in different research branches.

Topics
--------

Topics of interest include but are not limited to:

    * biologically plausible/natural methods for temporal data processing
    * clustering/classification techniques for temporal data
    * feature extraction and representations of temporal data
    * time-series modeling/forecasting
    * temporal information processing and fusion
    * representation/analysis/recognition of actions and events from
temporal data
    * temporal information indexing and retrieval
    * temporal data mining and knowledge discovery

Paper submission
----------------

The paper format should be the same as that required for a regular paper
submission in WCCI'06.
For details, see http://www.wcci2006.org/WCCI-Web_ifa.html. Papers
should be submitted via the
conference on-line web submission system under the title of this session
(please follow the above
link to find instructions). All submissions will go through a
peer-review process based on similar
criteria used for contributed papers in WCCI'06.

Important dates
---------------

Paper Submission: January 31, 2006
Decision Notification: March 15, 2006
Camera-Ready Submission: April 15, 2006
