Five Year Fixed Term Appointment (salary range £23,643 - £26,671 pa)

Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Centre for Theoretical and Computational Neuroscience at the University of Plymouth, UK.

The position has been made available through the award of a major new £1.8M five-year research grant from the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council for a project entitled: "A Novel Computing Architecture for Cognitive Systems based on the Laminar Microcircuitry of the Neocortex". Collaborators on the project include Manchester University, University College London, Edinburgh University, Oxford University, and London University School of Pharmacy.

Applicants for the post must have a PhD in a relevant subject area and possess an sound knowledge of the methods and tools of theoretical and computational neuroscience. They must be able to provide evidence of a existing strong publication record. The work of the Research Fellow will be specifically concerned with the investigation and integrated development of a cortical microcircuit model on a large scale Linux cluster simulation facility, in close collaboration with the other partners in the project, and with other partners on a related EU-funded project "FACETS". The position will require a postdoctoral researcher with extensive research experience in neurobiological modelling of neurons and neural circuitry, and sufficient breadth of knowledge in the field to be able to integrate the research results from all areas of the project into the model.
