Dear all,
Last January, we have organized an interface meeting in Switzerland
between researchers in the field of machine learning and statistical
physics. The topic of common interest was approximate inference and in
particular message passing methods.

The meeting was very interesting for both sides. Clearly, machine learning
benefits from statistical physics methods, but also the reverse is true,
in particular where it concerns the development of robust algorithms
and challenging applications.

The IOP Journal of Statistical Mechanics has published a focus issue
on the meeting, which you will find at
http://www.iop.org/EJ/journal/-page=extra.focus2/jstat
