2 Lecturer/Senior Lecturer Positions, School of Biomedical Sciences,
University of Sydney

The School of Biomedical Sciences is seeking to appoint 2
Lecturers/Senior Lecturers, one to be based in the Physiology
Department, the other in the Pharmacology Department.

The School of Biomedical Sciences lies within the Faculty of Medicine
of the University of Sydney which comprises one of the largest and
most active groups of biomedical researchers in Australia. Central
facilities for genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics are developing
rapidly and opportunities for collaboration between basic and
clinical sciences, and research institutes located in the area are
exceptional. Applicants should demonstrate how their research will
build on these opportunities.

The University of Sydney has established areas of research strength
in cellular and molecular sciences, cardiovascular and respiratory
sciences and the neurosciences. It is likely that the research
interests of appointee would lie within one of these broad areas,
which are well represented within the two Departments. Applicants at
either level would be expected to demonstrate creativity and
productivity in their scientific output; applicants at the Senior
Lecturer level will need a track record of competitive grant support
and evidence of an emerging international reputation.

The Departments teach Dental, Medical, Pharmacy and Science students
and have substantial numbers of Honours and PhD students. Applicants
for the position in Physiology must nominate several areas of
Physiology which they could teach at an elementary level and should
also identify their areas of expertise for research-based teaching.
Applicants for the position in Pharmacology should demonstrate a
background in the fundamentals of pharmacology and should also
identify their areas of expertise for research-based teaching.
Evidence of interest and experience in teaching should be presented by
applicants for each position.

Applicants should submit a full c.v, a short account of the type of
research they wish to pursue and the areas of teaching to which they
can contribute, an indication of the Departmental affiliation and
level of appointment they seek, and the names of 3 referees. Further
details of the departments can be found at
