The TheoLab - Research Unit for Structure Dynamics and the Evolution of
Systems - Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Germany - invites PhD
candidates and Phd recipients with pronounced interests in the field of
"Evolution and Dynamics of Neural Controllers for Autonomous Systems" to
apply for a

PhD Studentship (BAT IIa/2-O) / Postdoctoral Fellowship (BAT IIa-O).

Positions are open immediately and they are limited to May 31,
2002. Extensions may be possible. Applicants should have experience in
computer simulations (C, C++, Graphics, Linux). A background in the
fields of Dynamical Systems Theory, Neural Networks, and/or Embodied
Cognitive
Science is favorable. Experiments can be done with Khepera robots or
software
agents. The theoretically oriented activities will be concerned with the
relationship between behavior of agents and driving network
structures/dynamics, theory of evolutionary processes, optimization of
evolutionary algorithms, development of behavior oriented learning
strategies for recurrent networks. For further information see
http://www.theorielabor.de.

Successful applicants may benefit from TheoLabs association with the Max
Planck Institute for Mathematics in the Sciences, Leipzig, and the
Institute for Medical Statistics, Informatics and Documentation,
University Jena.

Applications (CV, two academic referees) should be send as soon as
possible to
