An  Australian  Research Council  Large grant   for 1998  --  2000 was
awarded  to  Professors  Tsoi    (University  of  Wollongong),    Gori
(University of  Siena),  and Sperduti (University  of  Pisa) to  study
adaptive processing of data structures, a new way of studying problems
which can be represented  as data structures. Many practical problems,
e.g., image understanding, document understanding, modelling of access
behaviour on  the internet, are more  suitable to be  modelled by data
structures due  to  their  relative  ease in handling   problems  with
dynamic and variable structures.

A PhD  scholarship  for three   years tenable  at the  University   of
Wollongong in adaptive processing of data  structures is available for
suitably qualified candidate   to take up immediately. The   candidate
must have a good first class undergraduate degree in computer science,
computer  engineering, mathematics  or  other related  discipline with
some  familiarity  with neural   networks,  data structures,  automata
theory.  It is  desirable for the candidate  to have some postgraduate
training in neural networks.
