              POSTDOCTORAL POSITION IN VISUAL RECOGNITION

          Harvard-MIT Division of Health Sciences and Technology
                   Massachusetts Institute of Technology


   A postdoctoral position is available immediately on a multidisciplinary
project to develop a silicon vision chip for pattern recognition using analog
very-large-scale integrated circuits. The goal of this sub-project is to
develop a neural network architecture that is optimal for analog VLSI
implementation. Research approach involves computer modeling of the human
visual system and translation of these models into analog neural network
architectures in cooperation with other team members in VLSI design. (See:
Poon and Shah, Hebbian learning in parallel and modular memories, 
Biol. Cybern. 78:79-86, 1998).
    Experience in vision science and neural networks required. Position is
initially for one year and renewable depending on progress and
availability of funds. Applications are evaluated immediately upon
