The Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University, in
collaboration with the Center for the Neural Basis of Cognition
(CNBC), is soliciting applications for a tenure-track faculty position
in computational neuroscience. The successful applicant will be
expected to carry out a research program in the theoretical analysis
of computational properties of real neural systems, and how these
properties contribute to aspects of cognition such as perception,
memory, language, or the planning and coordination of action.

Theoretically-oriented CNBC faculty have many opportunities to
collaborate with experimentalists using a variety of techniques,
including primate and rat electrophysiology, MRI and PET functional
brain imaging, and neuropsychological assessment of clinical
populations. Researchers with a strong background in mathematical
analysis, dynamical systems theory, probablistic and statistical
approaches, or other analytical techniques relevant to the study of
brain function are especially encouraged to apply.

The deadline for initial review of applications is February 1, 1998,
but applications arriving after that date will be considered until the
position is filled. Send a vita, a statement of research interests,
copies of relevant publications, and three letters of reference to:
