A preliminary version of the program for the Thirtieth Annual
Meeting of the Society for Mathematical Psychology (SMP), to be
held July 31-Aug 3, 1997, is now available on the World Wide Web at
the address:

             http://www.indiana.edu/~mathpsy/

Registration forms and hotel and travel information will be added
in the near future. A complete regular mailing of this information
for all SMP members and conference participants will take place
next week.

Some highlights for this year's conference include a
symposium on formal models of face recognition, a symposium on the
use of selective influence in the analysis of mental architectures,
and a satellite conference on methods for model selection (to be
held Aug 3-4; the program is available at
http://www.cwi.nl/~pdg/modsel.html). Invited addresses are being
given by Thomas Landauer (Latent Semantic Analysis), Roger
Ratcliff (Diffusion Model for Reaction Time), and Jerald
Balakrishnan (Misrepresentations of Signal Detection Theory).
Multiple sessions are planned in areas of learning and memory,
judgment and decision making, categorization, information
processing, sensation and perception, measurement and scaling, and
methodology and statistics. The activities include an opening
reception Thursday evening, a banquet Friday evening, and an
opportunity to attend an opera on Saturday evening. We hope you
can attend.

     Sincerely,
