SIAN KA'AN 97
The Second Joint Mexico-US International Workshop
on Neural Networks and Neurocontrol

August 19-29 1997

Playa del Carmen
Quintana Roo Mexico

GOAL

Sian Ka'an 97, The Second Joint Mexico-US International Workshop on Neural
Networks and Neurocontrol will provide an opportunity for academic and
industrial researchers of the United States and Mexico, and other
participants including graduate students, to exchange ideas and research
results with the aim of enhancing the overall research effort, reducing
duplication, and encouraging cooperation among the participants.

FORMAT

Approximately twenty speakers have been selected to present two hour
keynote talks describing the state of the art of topics related to the
development of the theoretical and applied aspects of neural networks and
neurocontrol. Poster sessions of invited and contributed papers will allow
for discussion of particular works. A hands-on workshop for students, and
other interested participants, will provide some practice and more basic
information about the topics addressed in the conference presentations and
poster sessions.

LOCATION

The conference will be held in Playa del Carmen, in the state of Quintana
Roo, Mexico. The hotel is a five star luxury facility, with many legendary
Mayan ruins in the vicinity of the hotel. The facilities provide a relaxed
and informal atmoshpere for the exchange of ideas. A program of cultural,
educational, and social events will enhance the understanding, and help to
establish solid cooperative efforts, among conference participants.

CALL FOR PAPERS

The Organizing Committee invites all persons interested in Artificial
Neural Networks, Fuzzy Sets, Evolutionary Programming, Control Theory, and
Smart Engineering Systems Theory to submit papers for presentation (poster
sessions) at the conference. All papers accepted for presentation will be
published in the conference proceedings. To ensure a high-quality
conference and proceedings, all paper submissions will be reviewed for
technical merit and content by three senior researchers in the field. Best
Paper Awards will be presented in the areas of "Novel Applications",
"Theoretical Development", and "Electronic Implementations".

Authors are requested to submit
letter of intent, abstract (up to 250 words), and
        information sheet
(full name(s) of author(s), title of paper, phone/fax
numbers, e-mail address)

Important Dates: Letter of intent: by May 15, 1997.
Notice of acceptance of papers will be sent by May
30, 1997.
Camera-ready laser manuscripts: by June 30,
