	       POSTDOCTORAL OR RESEARCH FELLOW

         Signal Processing and Pattern Recognition
                         at
     CSSIP and the University of Adelaide, South Australia

The Cooperative Research Centre for Sensor Signal and Information
(CSSIP) is one of several cooperative research centres awarded by the
Australian Government to establish excellence in research, development
and industrial application of key technologies. The University of
Adelaide, represented by the Electrical and Electronic Engineering
Dept., is a partner in this cooperative research centre, together with
the Defence Science and Technology Organisation, four other
universities, and several companies. CSSIP consists of about 100
effective full time researchers, and is well equipped with many UNIX
Workstations and a massively parallel machine.
	The aim of the position is to develop and investigate principles in
the areas of sensor signal and image processing, classification and
separation of signals, pattern recognition and data fusion. 
	The Pattern Recognition program is in a formative phase. An
appointment may be made for up to two years, with possibility of
renewal depending on funding.

DUTIES: In consultation with task leaders and specialist researchers
to contribute to the formulation of research plans, investigate
principles for algorithm design, design experiments, prepare data and
software and carry out experiments, prepare or assist with the
preparation of technical reports, and liaise with other groups and
industrial contacts.

QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate must have a Ph.D. or
equivalent achievement, a proven research record, and a demonstrated
ability to communicate excellently in written and spoken English.

CONDITIONS and PAY will be in accordance with University of Adelaide
policies, and will depend on the qualifications and
experience. Appointments may be made in scales A$36285 to A$41000 for
a postdoc., and A$42538 to A$48688 for a research fellow (A$1 is
approx.  US$0.78.) plus superannuation contribution. The position may
be offered as soon as an outstanding applicant is found.
