The COMPUTER SCIENCE INSTITUTE III, UNIVERSITY OF BONN, GERMANY has
established a research group for autonomous robotics in 1993. The
RHINO group, named after the autonomous robot RHINO, addresses the
research questions

	active vision
	fast scene segmentation
	statistical pattern recognition and learning methods
	autonomous map building from sonar data and stereo
	robot planning and control
	design of a high level robot control language

with special emphasis of adaptive neural network methods.
We expect to have a postdoctoral position available for one year
starting this fall with the possibility of renewal for a second
year. Applicants should have research experience in several
of the research areas listed above. Furthermore, the
applicant must have development experience in a  C++/UNIX
environment. The position is associated with the research groups of
Profs. Buhmann and Cremers.  Funding is provided by the European
Community under the Training and Mobility of Researchers (TMR)
contract VIRGO. Applicants must have been residents of a European
country (excluding Germany) for the last 18 months.

The COMPUTER SCIENCE INSTITUTE III at Bonn has about 30 PhD students,
5 faculty members, and 10 research associates (Postdocs). 4 PhD
students, 2 postdocs, and 3 faculty members are associated with the
RHINO group. The Institute is headed by Prof. A. B. Cremers.
