Belew on Paradigmatic Over-Fitting

Rik Belew recently posted the following message to the GA Digest.
With his permission, I am reposting it to connectionists.  If you
substitute XOR, encoder-decoder tasks, and 2-spirals for De Jong's
F1-F5, I think the same message applies to a fair amount of
connectionist research too.
