 I used to be the maintainer of connectionists. When people ask to subscribe 
to it, they are asked to tell connectionists-request what they work on (to 
maintain connectionists as a group of people actually working in the field).

I am fairly sure that the message that sparked this discussion was such a 
message, sent to connectionists instead of connectionists-request by mistake.
