From grayw at rpi.edu Fri Nov 7 08:15:54 2014 From: grayw at rpi.edu (Gray, Wayne) Date: Fri, 7 Nov 2014 13:15:54 +0000 Subject: [ACT-R-users] ISO a doctoral student for Fall 2014 Message-ID: <482E667A-1D98-4990-BA90-200F948C52F5@rpi.edu> All, Greetings. I looking for a new doctoral student next fall -- someone who is interested in our program of research and modeling of "immediate interactive behavior" and who would enjoy mastering the intricacies of eye data collection, analysis, etc (e.g., see the R package created by my student Ryan Hope: http://ryanhope.github.io/gazetools/ ). The student should have strong quantitative and computational skills (please have them look at my discussion of this at: http://homepages.rpi.edu/~grayw/ISO.html ). The lab is currently having fun attempting to bring cognitive and machine learning modeling to undiscover the secrets of extreme expertise in immediate interactive behavior in dynamic task environments such as Tetris?. We also have an interesting data visualization project for which we will be recruiting expert level "League of Legend" players. For a general sense of the lab's direction please send your students to: http://homepages.rpi.edu/~grayw/grayres/ For the slides and links to videos from my recent talk at Universit?t T?bingen on the Extreme Expertise project: http://homepages.rpi.edu/~grayw/pubs/ Many thanks, Wayne **Rensselaer**Rensselaer**Rensselaer**Rensselaer**Rensselaer** Wayne D. Wayne Begin forwarded message: Date: 2014-Nov-17 at 06:41:50 EST Subject: Postdoc ad From: David Mendonca > To: Wayne Gray > Subject: *Postdoc in Decision-making at RPI* A 12-month, full-time postdoctoral scholar position in decision making and applied statistics is available beginning 1 February 2015 in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering or related field, with core competencies in human factors and/or applied statistics. Prior research experience in the disaster response domain is a plus. Duties and responsibilities include data management, modeling and analysis; collaborative publishing; professional presentations; shared supervision of graduate and undergraduate research assistants; and proposal development. The position is associated with a three-year NSF-funded project on post-disaster debris removal operations led by David Mendon?a (Co-PI Martha Grabowski). Renewal beyond the initial 12-month appointment is dependent upon performance and the availability of funds. To apply, email a single PDF file containing a cover letter describing (1) the applicant's qualifications and career plans, (2) a current CV, and (3) contact information for three professional references to mendod at rpi.edu. Review of applications will begin on 15 December 2014 and continue until the position is filled. Please direct any questions about this position to David Mendonca (mendod at rpi.edu). -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... ICCM is a forum for presenting and discussing the complete spectrum of cognitive modeling approaches, including connectionism, symbolic modeling, dynamical systems, Bayesian modeling, and cognitive architectures. Research topics can range from low-level perception to high-level reasoning. In 2015 we specifically welcome contributions that use computational models to better understand neuroscientific data. We are pleased to announce three world-class invited speakers: Pieter Roelfsema (Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience), Mark Steyvers (University of California, Irvine), and John Anderson (Carnegie Mellon University). All types of submissions (full papers, poster abstracts, symposia, and pre-conference tutorials/workshops) are due on December 8, 2014, 11.59pm CEST. The authors of the best papers of ICCM 2015 will be invited to extend their conference papers into full articles for a special issue of Topics in Cognitive Science. More information can be found on our website: http://www.iccm2015.org We hope to see you in Groningen!
