We have a government civilian position available at our Air Force Research
Laboratory location in Mesa, Arizona.  
The person selected for this position will work on projects emphasizing
intelligent agent applications and human behavior representation, especially
in the context of complex, dynamic simulation-based training environments.

experience) in those areas, wants to do some truly challenging cognitive

THIS POSITION IS PERMANENT AND OPEN TO ALL U.S. CITIZENS 
LOCATION: Air Force Research Laboratory Human Effectiveness Directorate
Warfighter Training Research Division Warfighter Skill Development &
Training Branch Mesa AZ 
DUTIES: Serves as a technical task lead for basic and applied cognitive
science research. Conducts in-house technical activities and/or provides
technical direction for contract efforts with minimal supervision. Compiles
research and development results into comprehensive reports, technical
papers, special reports, journal articles, and other research products.
Effectively plans and controls assigned resources. Designs, develops and
conducts research in the areas of agent-oriented programming, knowledge
representation, distributed artificial intelligence, intelligent
computer-generated forces, computation models of human performance and
learning process, and virtual reality applications. Receives general
guidance in terms of policies, program objectives and learning processes,
and virtual reality applications. Receives general guidance in terms of
policies, program objectives, and resources. Maintains currency with
professional affiliations through scientific review, professional
presentation, and interaction with other government and scientific agencies.

Basic Qualification Requirements: Applicants must have successfully
completed a full four year course of study in an accredited college or
university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included at least
30 semester or 45 quarter hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics,
and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours or 22.5 of the 45
quarter hours must have been in any combination of statistics and
mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. Courses in
teaching elementary, business or shop mathematics do not meet this
requirement. 
Additional Qualification Requirements: Applicants must have at least one
year of specialized experience. Specialized experience is knowledge and
experience in advanced agent development, artificial intelligence, human
behavior representation, and cognitive modeling, with direct application to
complex, real-time training systems; experience in designing and developing
intelligent tutoring systems; experience in developing virtual reality
applications using human performance and learning models; ability in
preparing all aspects of professionally accepted scientific reports,
including methods, data interpretation and presentation, and significance of
findings in relation to other findings by peers.
